Buburuza is a payments platform for companies and individuals. You verify once, and the platform gives you an account that holds balances, receives funds over payment rails, and sends money out to recipients you name.
Buburuza is a financial technology company, not a bank. It does not take deposits and does not offer deposit insurance. Regulated money movement is performed by licensed partners who act as the money transmitter of record. See Legal and regulatory.

Two kinds of space

Everything in Buburuza happens inside a space. A space owns the payment account, the wallets, the recipients, and the people who can act on it. You can belong to several company spaces and own one personal space, and switch between them without signing out. The money surface is the same in both: same wallets, same rails, same fee model. What differs is who is verified and which documents are asked for.

Where Buburuza operates

Onboarding serves two countries, for both kinds of space: A company registered elsewhere, or a person resident elsewhere, cannot complete verification: there is no verification profile to run for that country, so onboarding stops rather than starting something that could never finish.

How it works

1

Create an account with an email address. There is no password: you confirm a one-time code, then enroll a passkey, with a TOTP authenticator as the fallback. You are given recovery codes at the end.
2

Verify

Open a company space and complete KYB, or open your personal space and complete KYC. Verification runs in a hosted flow operated by Sumsub, a licensed identity provider.
3

Get a payment account

When verification passes, the payment account for that space is provisioned automatically, and its first fiat and stablecoin wallets are created. Depending on the provider, you may be asked to accept hosted terms before money movement opens.
4

Move money

Fund the account over an open rail, then send transfers and payouts. Every send is priced first: you get a quote, you see the fee, and you confirm against that quote.

What the platform holds

Wallets come in two kinds.
  • A fiat wallet holds a balance in a supported currency and receives funds over payment rails.
  • A stablecoin wallet holds third-party stablecoins and receives them at a deposit address.
Buburuza does not issue a stablecoin. Stablecoin wallets hold assets issued by other parties — USDC is the default. Any ticker you see in the app is the issuer’s, not Buburuza’s.

What Buburuza does not offer

The platform is deliberately narrow. None of the following exists today, and each would carry its own licensing conditions before it could:
  • Cards of any kind
  • Interest or yield on balances
  • Lending, credit lines, or overdrafts
  • Investment products, investment advice, or portfolio management
  • Insurance

Who it is for

  • Companies that need a verified account to hold balances and pay suppliers, contractors, and partners across borders.
  • Individuals in the US or Canada who want the same account for their own payments.
