What Buburuza is and is not, who holds which permission, what is not offered, and how personal data is handled.

This page states what Buburuza is, who holds which regulatory permission, and how personal data is handled. Where anything elsewhere in this documentation appears to conflict with this page, this page governs.

What Buburuza is

Buburuza is a financial technology company. It is not a bank, and it holds no banking licence in any jurisdiction.

Buburuza does not take deposits and does not offer deposit insurance. Balances are not insured by the FDIC, CDIC, or any other deposit insurance scheme. Funds are held with regulated payment and custody partners and are subject to those partners’ terms.

Buburuza also does not issue a stablecoin. Stablecoin wallets hold assets issued by third parties — USDC by default. The issuer of an asset, not Buburuza, stands behind its value and its redemption.

Who holds which permission

Regulated money movement is performed by licensed partners who act as the money transmitter of record for the corridor. Buburuza operates as a technology and compliance layer on top of them.

Features are enabled market by market as permissions are granted. Where Buburuza and its partners do not hold the required permission, the feature is not offered.

Where the platform operates

Onboarding serves companies registered in the United States or Canada, and individuals resident in those two countries. Elsewhere, verification cannot be completed and no account is opened.

What is not offered

None of the following exists on the platform today. Each would carry its own licensing conditions before it could:

• Cards of any kind
• Interest or yield on balances
• Lending, credit lines, or overdrafts
• Insurance
• Investment products, investment advice, or discretionary portfolio management
• Tokenised real-world assets

Your personal data

Personal data is processed to open and operate your account, to meet legal obligations, and to prevent fraud and financial crime.

Identity verification is performed by Sumsub, a licensed identity provider, which processes verification evidence on Buburuza’s behalf. Live support chat runs in Zendesk Messaging’s widget: your messages travel between your browser and Zendesk directly and are processed under Zendesk’s terms, with Buburuza supplying only a signed token identifying you.

Your rights. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access your data, correct it, ask for its deletion, object to certain processing, or receive a copy in portable form. Contact [e-mail].

Retention. Records required by anti-money-laundering law are retained for the period that law requires — generally five years after the account closes or the transaction completes. Other data is kept only as long as the purpose it was collected for requires.

Automated decisions. Where an automated system materially affects a decision about you, you can ask for it to be reviewed by a person.

The agreements that govern your account

Three documents govern your relationship with Buburuza, accepted at signup and available in the app under Settings → Documents:

• Electronic Communications Agreement

Each is versioned, and your acceptance is recorded against the exact version you accepted. When a document changes you are notified and asked to accept the new version.

Complaints

Contact [e-mail] with your account details and what happened, or open a ticket in the app. If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you may be able to escalate to the regulator or ombudsman service in your jurisdiction; the response to your complaint will say which applies to you.
